Small Business Forum (SBF)

The Woodbridge Metro Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Forum (SBF) serves the unique and special needs of small business members. The goal of the SBF is to communicate with small business people by meeting and networking, share information about the nature and value of our business or service and to generate business for each other.
Monthly breakfast meetings are held for all Chamber members on the third Tuesday of each month at La Bonbonniere’s Cookie Jar in Woodbridge excluding July, August and December. Our meetings are designed to educate, stimulate and motivate the owners of small business. Through our committees, the SBF organizes educational programs and seminars to assist small businesses with employee development needs and to keep pace with critical business issues. The Forum discusses problems and opportunities in this rapidly growing segment of the business community. It promotes events and programs sponsored by the SBF and organizes the selection of “Small Business Person of the Year” and other special projects.
The SBF works on your behalf to further development of small business in Woodbridge Township, Carteret, and surrounding areas. Small business must be aware of town zoning and building codes when opening a new business, expanding, renovating or in managing ongoing projects. The SBC has developed a working relationship on our members’ behalf with the zoning, building and board of health departments in order to assist and act as a friendly liaison with these officials.
The SBF is a valuable service provided to you as a benefit of your membership in the Chamber. The SBF encourages you to take advantage of the programs and services provided and to share you ideas and recommendations. Your input helps determine the sponsorship of programs and events that best meet the needs of small business in the area. If you or anyone in your organizations would like to receive regular notices regarding the SBF activities, or would like to learn how you can become more involved in the SBF, please contact the Chamber at (732) 636-4040.
Purpose
- Provide an environment and to promote a culture that fosters networking with and among small businesses.
- Ensure that an ongoing educational forum is in-place that is designed to improve business growth and development.
Networking
- We encourage Chamber members who participate in the SBF to meet with other SBF participants at their place of work to learn more about each other’s business and to discuss ways that they can advance each other’s business. As an example, at these meetings, be prepared to discuss your client profile and specifically discuss referral opportunities. It is highly recommended that an SBF participant make every effort to accommodate a request for a “house call” from another SBF member.
- At every SBF meeting one member will be given the opportunity to spotlight their business.
- At the beginning of each SBF meeting participants are afforded the opportunity to provide a “30 second elevator pitch” about their business.
- There are also excellent opportunities to network before and after each SBF meeting.
Education
- The SBF is committed to having an educational component included in the agenda of each meeting.
Client Profile
The purpose of a client profile is to facilitate the identification of the type of businesses/consumers that are good candidates for your products and/or services. A typical client profile should include, but not be limited to, the following information:
- Description of customer needs (expressed in terms of goals the customer wants to achieve or pain the customer wants to eliminate/avoid)
- Target industry or business type
- Business size
- Geographical considerations
- Client benefits to be derived from your products/services
- Willingness-to-pay considerations
